Studio On the Road: Assateague Island National Seashore, Chincoteague Virginia

by Catherine Jeltes in Studio Bits

As October slides into the Midwest (though I do love autumn) I admit to being slightly nostalgic for my summer travels.  Assateague Island National Seashore, an even smaller island off the small island of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia, is an amazing haven to enjoy the ocean along the Atlantic coast.

Chock full of shorebirds and marine wildlife (horseshoe crabs, rays, and dolphins to name a few) it’s easy (and quite blissful) to wander past the crowds and find unoccupied (and blessedly deserted) pristine stretches of beach.  Here is where I took my studio on road.  Not only did I collect seashells (the clams…oh the variety of clams!) for later still life photography at home, but I stumbled upon many scenes of beauty and charm unique to this barrier island.

From clams to sand dollars, a piece of my heart will always belong to the islands of Chincoteague and Assateague.   (And yes…the blue striped clams are my faves.)

All of these coastal decor prints are available for purchase here (just click the title of the image to view in my website gallery) or in my Etsy shop, where you can change the size of any image in the Choose Your Print Size gallery.  If you have ever visited Chincoteague, please share your experiences.  I’d love to hear about it!
