Have you ever been browsing through Etsy and notice that some sellers have cute, short, clickable links in their item descriptions instead of cumbersome links that go on for two lines? They look something like this: http://etsy.me/1LNPfJ5
My first thought was “I LIKE those.”
My next was “I gotta do that.”
And then “How do I do that?”
It took a bit of stumbling around in both Etsy’s forums and Google, but I finally found out how: bitly.com
This amazing website–and yeah, it’s free!–will shorten any link into something more manageable. Simply paste any link into the box at the top of the home page on bitly, click the orange box that reads “Shorten”, and voila…the site provides you with a unique, shortened link you can copy and paste anywhere.
If you include links to other sections of your Etsy shop within your item listings, it may be best to keep a list of those frequently used links handy to quickly cut and paste into new and existing item descriptions. Since I have prints of various sizes in my shop, my favorite way to address this issue is to list all of my print sizes and bitly links in my Etsy shop
This allows me quick access to copy and paste my shortened links wherever needed, as well as having them in one place for my customers.
I encourage you to take advantage of bitly.com
. I’m sure you’ll find it’s quite worth it!
